Nestled in the heart of the Black Mountains of Western North Carolina in the tranquil Broad River valley is the Raspberry Hill Bed and Breakfast. Named for the large wild raspberry patch located behind the house, where guests are welcome to go “berry-picking” in season, Raspberry Hill is an authentically-restored, early 1900's homestead.

“Careful attention has been paid to detail in every phase of the restoration process,” say Innkeeper and owner Herb Van Roekel, “from the rebuilding of the original chimney and replacement of some of the floors by using timber harvested from the property, to the use of original bedsteads found in the nearby barn.” Everywhere one looks there is a piece of history at Raspberry Hill, and the house is chock full of historical mementos found in and around the house during the restoration. The nostalgia felt here is just like going home to Grandma’s house.

As you arrive at Raspberry Hill, you will understand why the settlers of the mid-1700's chose this valley to settle. It provided clear, refreshing water from the springs located in the hills above the house and the flowing Broad River, which has its beginnings just a few miles north. The lush, green pastures provided grazing for the livestock and tillable land for growing crops to feed their families. The surrounding mountain ranges provided protection from much of the harshness of winter. It is no wonder folks who settled here felt they had found a piece of paradise. You will realize this same feeling when you arrive at Raspberry Hill.

In addition to full course, eat-until-you-are-full breakfasts, light lunches and restful sleep in the cozy comfort of an old-fashioned bedroom with private bath, you will experience peace, tranquility and easy-going country life at its best. Whether you choose to while away the hours in the front porch swing, or explore the walking paths in the woods, or dip your toes into the refreshing waters of the Broad River out front, there’s no place like a country home to rest and restore the soul.
